Ernest Lester "Butch" Rudisill, Jr.
( May 29, 1951 - March 23, 2024 )
Ernest Lester “Butch” Rudisill Jr., age 72, of Lincolnton, NC, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024.  Mr. Rudisill was born May 29, 1951, in Lincoln County, NC, son of the late Ernest Lester Rudisill Sr. and Mary Buff Rudisill.

“Take it to the Limit” by the Eagles was Butch’s favorite song, and he lived his life that way.  Butch was always scrappy, hence the reason he went by Butch.  He was a polio survivor and overcame those limitations because of his toughness.  When learning to water ski, he preferred to use one ski to utilize his stronger leg.  He raced dirt track cars even though it took a while to break the “bridesmaid status” for a win, all while wearing a leg brace.

When his wife developed early onset Alzheimer’s in her late fifties, Butch stepped up and cared for her in their home for 12 years.

Butch was a man who managed to connect with people with his magnetic personality.   He had a big heart and a wicked sense of humor.

Mr. Rudisill is survived by his daughter, Sandi R. Mowry (Dan) of Lynchburg, VA; sisters, Mary Jo Bridges and Linda McGinnis (Jimmie), both of Lincolnton, NC; grandson, Dillon Moore of Wilmington, NC; and step-grandson, Alec Mowry of Richmond, VA.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rudisill was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Newton Rudisill; brother, Larry Rudisill; and sisters, Jean Whisnant and Ann Rinehardt.

A Celebration of Butch’s Life will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Laboratory Mill in Lincolnton, NC.

The family requests that no flowers be sent.  Instead, memorial contributions may be made to post-polio.org, 50 Crestwood Executive Circle, Suite 440, St. Louis, MO 63126; or to the charity of one’s choice.
