Mary Jean Rollins
( December 28, 1930 - March 18, 2024 )
Mary “Jean” Rollins, 93, passed away in her sleep on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Summit Place Assisted Living, Mooresville, NC.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton where she will be laid to rest beside her Dad and Mother.

Jean was born on December 28, 1930, to the Reverend William A. and Mary (Cline) Rollins.  She attended Woman’s College, graduating from UNC-G in 1958 with a Master’s in elementary education.  She taught 5th grade in Charlotte for 39 years, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society.  Jean enjoyed her life in Charlotte, attending plays at Ovens Auditorium, Blumenthal, and Belk Theatre.  She could be found at the library at Southpark or K&W on Independence Boulevard.  An avid Tarheel sports fan, she followed football and basketball when they played.  

Jean was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lincolnton, NC, where her Dad was minister for a number of years and she attended every Sunday she could until it became too difficult.

Softspoken and always smiling even as Alzheimer’s stole her memories and capabilities, she maintained a gentle demeanor and was especially fond of small children.

Jean was predeceased by her parents and six siblings.  Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

The family expresses deepest gratitude to the caring staff and caregivers at Summit Place and Hospice of Iredell County who are phenomenal.
