Wilma Louise Canipe Sain

Wilma Louise Canipe Sain, age 84, of Saintown Road in Vale, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tommy Lineberger and Rev. Robert Sain officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.

Wilma was born in Lincoln County in 1939 to the late Wilburn and Julia Christopher Canipe.  She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Samuel Canipe, Lester Canipe, and Harold Canipe; and her sisters, Iva Lee Goins, Clara Cloninger, and Mildred Scronce.  She was a star basketball player and was Union’s first female athlete of the year.  She graduated from Union High School in 1957.  After graduation, she began working for Southern Bell.  She worked with the same company for 43 years and retired in 2000.  Buddy and Wilma have been married for 58 years.  They spent many years traveling the country from Las Vegas to baseball stadium tours, and to Niagara Falls, just to name a few.  She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale.  

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Dean (Buddy) Sain of the home; children, Brian Sain (Anita) of Mooresville, and Deana Sain (Cale Cornwell) of Cat Square; grandchildren, Luke Sain (Nancy), Monica Briggs (Zackary), Rachel Palmer (Brittney Knaszak), Caleb Cornwell, Ray Sain, and Davis Palmer.  She is also survived by one brother, Jerry Canipe (Annette) of Lincolnton.
