Deana Evelyn Coffey Dellinger

Deana Evelyn Coffey Dellinger, age 68, of Denver, NC passed away on January 9, 2023, of a sudden and unexpected illness.

She was born January 16, 1954, in Lenoir, NC to the late James Hillard Coffey and Dorothy Evelyn Cardwell Coffey. Deana graduated from Gamewell-Collettsville High School in 1972 and then attended Caldwell Community College. She worked at Broyhill Furniture Industries and Green Mountain Park in Lenoir, NC, and later worked with her husband as co-operator at Dellinger Furniture, Inc. where she retired in 2018.

Deana was a dedicated Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, substitute teacher, member of 4-H, and member of the North Carolina Extension Homemakers Association, Inc. She proudly received Lincoln County’s first Outstanding Young Homemaker award in 1985, received Lincoln County’s Outstanding Club Leader award in 1988, and was named Mother of the Year in 1987. She volunteered her time as Vice-President of Rock Springs PTA and was in charge of school volunteers for three years with the Writing to Read Program. She considered herself a professional volunteer. In 1993 she received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services to Children of Lincoln County. With hard work and dedication, in 1995 she received the Big Heart Award from “Jerry’s Kids,” The Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Deana’s hobbies included quilting, crocheting, attending Rock Springs Camp Meeting annually, Sudoku, and spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished her time with all children and said, to quote her, “Nothing gives me a bigger high than being with kids. I want kids to be able to look back on a moment in their life that I’ve been a part of and remember it was a happy time.”

Deana was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandma, and aunt. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Dennis Bain Dellinger Jr. of Denver, NC; daughters Dare Dellinger (John) of Dallas, NC, and Dru Dellinger of Clinton, SC; son Devin Dellinger (Kaitlyn) of Stanley, NC; sisters Alesia Norris (Jerry, deceased) of Lenoir, NC, Kim Chatman (Ron, deceased) of Hickory, NC, and Ginger (deceased) (Vestal) Granite Falls, NC; brothers Tony Coffey (Robin) of Huntersville, NC, and Tim Coffey (Melanie) of Granite Falls, NC; and three grandchildren, Larkin Hoffman, Josie Hoffman, and Poppy Dellinger; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church, 988 NC-16 Business South, Stanley, NC 28164. Receiving of Friends will be held at 11:00 AM prior to the Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
