From Mr. Ridenhour's family:

It is with deep sadness that I tell you our dad departed this earth earlier today. After a brief brush with some serious health complications dad passed away peacefully in his own home. He was fortunate to have lived 90 good years living at home and still doing what he wanted.
Earlier in life dad served his country by means of the US Navy. He jokingly would tell you he was on a 14 day tour to Japan and sick the entire time eating only 2 bacon sandwiches in the 14 days.
After he served he married our mom, Bobbie Jo Hargett. She was to become the mother of his four children (Robert, Wayne, Dawn and Grace). They were married for 66 years when our mom passed away in March. She was his best friend and love of his life. We recollected today that they hadn’t been a night apart in decades until March of this year when dad made the trip to Wilmington to my niece’s wedding without her due to her declining health. We somehow feel his missing mom added to the suffering from his illnesses. He was just tired and ready to see her and to enter the kingdom of Heaven.
We recall the good days of our youth when dad would haul us and the camper to the beach for long summer vacations. We also fondly remember the days of camping at Pier Marina and campground. Dad would call square dances and play songs the younger kids liked to dance to. And speaking of square dances he and mom loved to square dance back in the day. They were always decked out for those dances. They both loved to dress sharp every time they left the house. He particularly loved cowboy boots and watches. And he was definitely a sucker for a good lookin ride as he owned many of them in his life time. It comes as no surprise that he worked at a local car lot with high end cars even as he turned 90 in October. He loved telling you what classy cars rolled onto the lot each week. And he loved driving so he was happy running errands for the dealership.
Dad still had his wits about himself. He could name you every relative in every city he had living both near and far. AND could tell you about their life and families.
Some things dad really enjoyed were traveling across country with good friends and family. Dad enjoyed driving his van on those special trips. I’m glad he and mom had those opportunities. He also loved his time spent at the Shrine Club as a Shriner. He was a member of the Ragtops enjoying driving his 1969 Buick Electra 225 convertible in the parades.
He has always been an active member in his church actively attending services, Sunday School and functions with mom. Always dressed to the nines; the both of them. Even until the very end,
he was actively attending.
Dad loved his family and family get togethers dearly. But as much as he loved all of us I think it was just too much losing mom. She has only been gone nine months herself. He just never adjusted to being without her.
Mom was there waiting to welcome him to their heavenly home. Rest in peace dad…until we meet again. Much love…
