Gertrude Elizabeth Canipe
( August 21, 1939 - December 1, 2019 )
Gertrude Elizabeth Canipe, age 80, of Charleston, West Virginia, and formerly of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2019 with her family by her side.

Mrs. Canipe was born August 21, 1939, in Rutherford County, NC, to the late Wayne and Lonnie Mae Lutz Lookadoo.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Grady Lee Canipe; son, John Ray Caldwell; brother, Willie Lookadoo; sister, Texie Lookadoo; stepdaughter, Janet Rhoney; as well as aunts, uncles, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two loving daughters, Peggy Mascaro of Charleston, WV, and Barbara Mullins and her husband Dave of Charleston, WV; two beloved stepdaughters, Faye Caldwell of Newton, NC, and Marie Mahala of Maiden, NC; ten adored grandchildren: Chasity (Rick) Bumgarner, Jennifer (Race) Gee, Melissa Abernathy; Jonathan Chatman, Kathleen Chatman, Laura (Cody) Rowlands, David Mullins, Hope Mullins, Misty (Veronica) Hunter, and Brandy Williams; four precious great-grandchildren: Drew Bumgarner, Brooke Lowery, T.J. Abernathy, and Destiny Abernathy; three treasured sisters, Sarah Frye, Rachel Beal, and Polly Travis; as well as her many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and friends.

Mrs. Canipe was a strong woman, who had overcome multiple health obstacles with the Lord by her side. Besides enjoying the love of her family, her greatest passion was participating in various activities with her friends at Oakridge Healthcare Center. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Lytle officiating.  Burial will follow in the Maiden City Cemetery.  

The family would like to thank Oakridge Healthcare Center, its employees, residents, and their families for the many years of wonderful care provided to Mrs. Canipe. Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff at Select Specialty Hospital for their compassionate care of Mrs. Canipe and the family during her last days.
