Lee Mozeley Kanipe

Lee Mozeley Kanipe, age 78, of Gilbert Sain Road in Vale, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Lee was born May 28, 1940, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Worth Elihue Kanipe and Grace Mozeley Kanipe.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Worth A. Kanipe and James Terrell Kanipe; and two sisters-in-law, Helen B. Kanipe and Ila T. Kanipe.  He worked as an insurance agent with Nationwide for thirty-five years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton, a 1958 graduate of Hickory High School and a 1962 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College.  Lee was an athletic sports official for high school football for forty years, baseball for ten years, and basketball for thirty-three years.  

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Herman Kanipe of the home; three sons, Lee M. Kanipe, Jr. of Vale, E. Todd Kanipe of Waxhaw, and Patrick Doug Kanipe of Radford, VA; stepson, Gregory P. Knight of Morganton; stepdaughter, Julia Knight Lovett of Morganton; brother, Charles A. Kanipe of Newton; sister, Lennie K. Sever of Vale; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Sylvia S. Kanipe of Hickory.
