Shirley Coffey Bailey
( April 21, 1930 - January 7, 2018 )
Shirley Coffey Davis Bailey, age 87, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Gainsville Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Rice and Rev. Brad Painter officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Shirley was born April 21, 1930.  Her parents were Clinard Yates and Bryte Beal Coffey.  She graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1947.  On July 3, 1948, she married James G. Davis from Gastonia, NC.  Two sons were born to this union, James Gregory Davis and Leslie Carroll Davis.

Shirley had many talents…all of these were gifts from God, she says.  The talent she was most known for was her ability to play piano.  She began playing her grandfather Coffey’s piano when she was only 3 years old.  She began taking piano lessons when she was 6 years old.  When she was 13 years old, Shirley became a Christian, was baptized and became pianist at Riverview Baptist Church.  She used her musical talent for the Lord all her life playing for churches, Gospel groups, and anywhere she could magnify the name of Jesus Christ and carry the Gospel to many parts of the United States.

On August 29, 1970, Shirley was married to Reverend Morrison L. “Bill” Bailey.  They worked together to carry the Gospel wherever they went.  They lived in Tennessee for 10 years where Reverend Bailey held revivals and pastored a church.  They had over 40 happy years together when God called Reverend Bailey Home on January 2, 2011.  “Bill” and Shirley are both buried in the Gainsville Baptist Church Cemetery.  In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Clinard Elliott “Bud” Coffey, and her parents, Clinard Yates and Bryte Coffey.

Gainsville Baptist Church called Shirley to be their pianist September 10, 2006.

“Bill” and Shirley joined Gainsville Baptist Church August 19, 2007.

She is survived by two sons, Leslie Davis, and wife Teresa, of Gastonia, and James Gregory Davis of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Jason Davis (Ruby) of Charlotte, Elizabeth Clements (Justin) of Gastonia, Caleb Davis (Jaclyn) of Gastonia, Canaan Morehead (Justin) of Gastonia; seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Wyatt, Naomi, Judah, James Lee, Eli, and Ezra; and a stepson, Michael Bailey, and wife Judy, of Taylorsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the M.L. “Bill” Bailey Ministerial Fund of Gainsville Baptist Church, 270 Gainsville Church Road, Lincolnton, NC  28092.
