Ruth Hughes Colvard
( August 9, 1935 - September 21, 2016 )

Ruth Hughes Colvard, age 81, of 325 W. Hwy 150 By-Pass, Lincolnton, NC passed away September 21, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center in Lincolnton. 

Her funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home. 

She was born August 9, 1935, the second child of seven to Frank Hughes and Mallie Hoyle Hughes. She grew up in western Lincoln County as did her future husband, Frank Colvard. Frank and Ruth met in their early teen years riding the bus to church. After years of courtship, they married at age 18 and 19 on November 8, 1953 in South Carolina. Ruth worked as a cashier at the Winn-Dixie in Lincolnton for 20 years where she made an impact on each person she encountered. She was a member of the Roseland Baptist Church for the majority of her life, where she served as Treasurer for 40 years. She was a godly, loving and selfless woman who loved her church, community, but first and foremost her family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mallie Hughes, and her brother, John Hughes. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Frank Colvard, her daughters, Terry Rhyne and husband, Steve Rhyne, and Tammy Hawn and beloved nephew, Johnny Colvard, and wife Vickie Colvard. Three granddaughters, Lisa Rhyne Beam, and husband Jason Beam, Holly Rhyne Sterne and husband Michael Sterne, and Megan Hawn Gilbert, and husband Justin Gilbert, three great-grandchildren, Tristen Ingle, Cody Beam, and Malli Mason. Two sisters, Betty Avery and Jane Warlick, and three brothers, Bill Hughes, Jim Hughes and Danny Joe Hughes and numerous nieces and nephews.
