James Hugh Hoyle
( March 5, 1927 - March 16, 2015 )
Mr. James Hugh Hoyle, 88, of Lincolnton, passed away on March 16, 2015 at Peak Resources in Cherryville.

Mr. Hoyle was born March 5, 1927, in Lincoln County.  Upon his graduation from North Brook High School at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the Destroyer Escort Dionne.  He later served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Hoyle received a BS degree from Lenoir Rhyne College and an MA degree from Appalachian State Teachers College.  He retired from Lincoln County Schools with 32 years of service as a teacher of social studies and golf coach at West Lincoln High School.  He was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church.  An avid golfer and world traveler, Mr. Hoyle seemed to have a penchant for seeing more places and meeting more people.  He and his wife had traveled on all of the seven continents and visited 90 countries. Also, they had visited all 50 states, and all the provinces of Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Atkin Hoyle and Annie Hull Hoyle Deaton, and his step –father, Clyde Deaton.

Survivors are include his wife of 63 years, Mary Gilbert Hoyle; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Vickie Hoyle of Denver; daughter and son-in-law, Laraine and Terry Middleton of Denver; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Deaton of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Frances Leatherman of Newton; grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and Chuck Dorton, Megan and Rob Blanke, Jamie and Elizabeth Middleton, Mike and Christie Middleton, Nick and Missy Hatley, Candice and Matthew Morton; great-grandchildren, Alex Dorton, Landon Blanke, Parker Middleton, Chalmers Middleton, Kinson Middleton, Kendall Middleton, Eve Hatley, and Nathan Morton.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton.  A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Kevin C. Miller, will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Messiah United Methodist Church, Lincolnton, with the body to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton.
