Nellie Kiser Carpenter

Nell Kiser Carpenter, 96, passed away on Friday March 13, 2015 at Givens Estate Healthcare in Asheville, N.C.  She was surrounded by her family.  Mrs. Carpenter was originally from Lincolnton, N.C. but has resided in Asheville for the last 10 Years.  Mrs. Carpenter was born in Lincoln County on September 20, 1918, the daughter of Grace Blanche Stroupe and Aldophus Lafayette Kiser.

Mrs. Carpenter worked at First National Bank of Lincolnton before becoming secretary for Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  While working at Emmanuel she worked with Pastors Henry McCullough, Luther Thomas, Fred Ramseur, Shoneberg Seltzer, Ralph Wallace, and David Herbertson.  After retiring from Emmanuel Lutheran, she worked for Finger’s True Value Hardware and Garden Center for many years.  Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Lincolnton Garden Club, Emmanuel’s Women Circle, and played bridge twice a month with her neighbors.  Additionally, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, The American Red Cross, and Christian Ministries for many years.

Nell enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and working in the greenhouse and flower garden.  She most enjoyed always having fresh flowers on the kitchen table!  An avid N.C. State University football and basketball fan, she loved preparing tailgates and picnics before the games.  Her family and friends loved her homemade chocolate pies, pound cakes and several varieties of homemade ice cream.

Mrs. Carpenter was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was incredibly devoted to her church, family, and a loyal friend to many.

Mrs. Carpenter is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Keith Charles Carpenter and infant son, Keith Charles Carpenter Jr., and siblings Jeanette Kiser Robinson, Frank Kiser, Clyde Kiser, Glenn Kiser, Robert Kiser, and Bayne Kiser.  She is survived by her daughter Kay Carpenter Finger and husband Tom, three grandchildren: Katie Finger Williams and husband Nate, Kippin Finger Jordan and husband Chris, T.J. Finger and wife Kirby and four great grandchildren: Madison and Avery Jordan and Tommy and Kennedy Finger, all of Asheville, N.C.

The funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton on Tuesday March 17th, at 2:00 PM.  The family will receive friends in the North Addition of the church prior to the service.  The family will then proceed to Bethel Lutheran Church.  
Memorials may be sent to Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Lincolnton, 216 South Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092, in lieu of flowers.  Mrs. Carpenter’s family would also like to thank the staff at Givens Estate Healthcare for the loving care she received while living there for a few years.
