Janette Haynes Black

Janette Haynes Black, age 88, of Crouse, died on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Black was born October 6, 1926, in Lincoln County, to the late Annie Mae Powell. In addition to her grandparents, her parents, and two sisters, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Chesley Gray Black, Jr. She was a matriarch in her family. She was involved in her church for 65 years, loved her flowers, making things with her hands, which includes sewing, quilting, ceramics, basket weaving, crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint, to name a few.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis Black and wife Becky, and Sonny Black and wife Teresa, all of Lincolnton; a brother, Bud Powell of Vale; a sister, Brenda Willis of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Denny Black and wife Hollie, Chesley Gray Black IV, Betsy Broome and husband Scott, and Bonnie Gunnell and husband Steven; and four great-grandchildren, Hallie and Brooklyn Black, Makenna Broome, and Brooks Gunnell.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and caregivers at Peak Resources, all of the caregivers in the home, and all of the friends and anyone who helped with her care.
