Sue McGinnis Gilbert
( February 6, 1930 - December 28, 2023 )
Sue McGinnis Gilbert went to be with our Lord, Thursday, December 28, 2023 peacefully with her sister, Carole Boggs and her niece, Patricia Boggs by her side.

Sue was born February 6, 1930 to W.A. and Ellen Bryte McGinnis in Lincolnton, NC. She graduated from Lincolnton High School and Business College. Sue worked for Carolina Roller & Supply Co. and retired after 40 years. She also worked at Town Square Ford in Lincolnton for 20 years. Sue was a member of Emanuel Reformed Church where she attended for 87 years. She joined the church when she was 12 years old and was a very active member of the church. Sue Gilbert was outgoing, loved people, and also enjoyed working outside in the yard. Sue was a lifetime member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. On Election Day, she served at the voting poles. She did volunteer work for Lincoln County Senior Center, Christian Ministries, and the Good Neighbor Shop. She loved walking everyday and would often stop to socialize along her way.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by five sisters, three brothers, and her husband of 40 years, Forest Edward Gilbert, Sr. What a glorious reunion there must be in Heaven!

Sue is survived by her son, Forest Edward Gilbert, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC who she loved dearly and was very proud of him and his many accomplishments. She is also survived by her sister Carole Boggs, many nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces, and great-great nephews and great-great nieces.

On Tuesday, January 2, 2023, visitation will be from 10:00 am to 10:45 am in the Vestibule of Emanuel Reformed Church at 329 E. Main St., Lincolnton, NC 28092. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Emanuel Reformed Church with Rev. Dr. Johnny Boggs officiating and Sue’s pastor, Rev. Michael Baldonado assisting. The burial service will take place in Hollybrook Cemetary immediately after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emanuel Reformed Church, PO Box 2058, Lincolnton, NC 28093.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff of The Greens, Hospice, and Warlicks Funeral Home for the loving care of Sue and the family.
