Henry Erson Whitener, Jr.

Henry Erson Whitener, Jr., age 90, of Cullendale Court in Crouse, died on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Hollybrook Cemetery with Rev. Stacy Nowell officiating. The family will greet friends graveside following the service.
Henry was born May 3, 1933, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Henry Erson Whitener, Sr. and Lois Clary Whitener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Chandler Whitener; daughter, Joan Van Dusen; and sons, Henry Erson Whitener, III and Eric Whitener. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, then worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by a daughter, Lee O’Malley (John) of Matthews; four grandchildren, Chris O’Malley (Rebecca) of Charlotte, Mark O’Malley of Huntersville, Erin Taylor of Colorado, and Taylor Weese of Charlotte; brother, Dan Whitener (Linda) of Huntersville; brother-in-law, Dr. D.C. Chandler (Winborne) of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society, PO Box 23, Lincolnton, NC 28093.
