Joyce Elaine Kendall Maxwell

Joyce Elaine Kendall Maxwell, who was born in Charlotte on June 30, 1952, slipped away into the beloved arms of her Savior on May 8, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family.

She grew up in the Charlotte area. Graduating from North Mecklenburg High School. She attended CPCC and met and married the love of her life, Larry Dean Maxwell who proceeded her in death. They were married for 31 years. They lived in Iron Station where they raised their family. Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Reuben Kendall, Jr., and Dixie Henrietta Pinyan Kendall as well as her sister, Alice Kendall Rollins.

Joyce is survived by her children, Matthew (Erin) Maxwell of Iron Station, Robin (James) Boone of Iron Station, Pamela (Matthew Dillon) Maxwell of Stanley. Grandchildren, James Boone, Hunter Boone, William Maxwell, Rebecca Maxwell, Matthew Maxwell, Jr., Kaleigh Maxwell, Ethan Maxwell, Charlotte Dillon, and Gabriel Dillon. Her brothers, Danny Kendall (Maureen), and Timothy Kendall (Tammy), and her sister, Jennifer Kendall as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews.

She worked at various times throughout her life, at Transport Clearing, Lincoln County Department of Social Services, Withers Body Shop and L&J Tax Service.

Joyce loved playing softball and her favorite position to play also became her nickname – Shortstop.

The best word to describe Joyce is Mother. Not only was she an exceptional mother to her three children and grandchildren, but she was also a mother to everyone she met. She took care of brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and anyone else she met that needed anything. She will ALWAYS be lovingly remembered on Mother’s Day for her loving, nurturing spirit.

The funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11:30 AM at New Grace Baptist Church, 3462 NC 73, Iron Station, NC 28080 Funeral Service Immediately following 1:00 PM.

Graveside Service Monday, May 15, 2023, at noon – Hillcrest Cemetery – Mt. Holly, NC.
