Hector Paul Roman

Hector Paul Roman, age 86, of The Greens in Lincolnton, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022.  Mr. Roman was born October 26, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Louis Roman and Juanita Cruz-Mendez.

Mr. Roman retired from the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Master Sergeant.  He served three tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and was also stationed in Germany and Spain.  Additionally, he served many other various foreign deployments before retirement in 1977.  During his service, Mr. Roman was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Roman is survived by his son, Michael Roman and wife, Ann Marie Nolen Roman, of Gastonia; daughter, Darlene Roman Smith and husband, Michael Darrin Smith, of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Roman, Christopher Smith and wife, Shasta Bryant Smith, William Coty Smith, and Chad Dalton Smith and wife, Cristal Zalverio-Smith; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Raelyn Smith, Easton Smith, James Smith, Hannah Smith, Katie Smith, and Yaeley Smith; and sister, Lillie Cruz of Barcelona, Spain.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roman was preceded in death by his son, Warren Bruce Mendez; and numerous siblings.

A funeral service for Mr. Roman will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Boger City Baptist Church, Lincolnton, North Carolina, with Pastor Bill Bigham officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 3:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.  Interment with full military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 03, 2023, in the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, North Carolina.
