Joann Holloway Brooks
( July 31, 1939 - October 28, 2022 )
Joann Holloway Brooks, 83, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2022, at her home after a brief illness.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Marvin United Methodist Church, 2731 Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC.  The service and celebration of her life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Joann was born July 31,1939, in Lincoln County. She attended Union High School and Appalachian State Teacher’s College where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Science. She was proud to be an ASU Mountaineer.

She taught with Collier County Schools in Naples, FL, Enka High School in Asheville, NC, and Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, NC. She retired from Lincoln County Schools in 1996. Throughout her 32 years as a teacher, she touched the lives of many students and co-workers.

Joann was a life-long member of Marvin United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, church council member, United Methodist Women officer, and Relay for Life chairperson.  She was a volunteer 4-H leader for over 30 years, chaperoning youth to state and national trips and teaching sewing classes.

She loved to travel, as long as it was not on an airplane, and she visited forty-eight states. Her favorite trip was to Alaska and all the Christian Tours trips taken with her grandchildren, including Canada, New York City and Washington, DC.  She also loved her sports teams and was an avid fan of Appalachian State Football, UNC-CH basketball, and the Atlanta Braves.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie W. Brooks and her parents, Ira and Edrice Holloway.

Survivors include her daughter Edyie Brooks-Bryant and husband Robby of Oak Ridge, NC and grandchildren Parker Andrew and Logan Brooke; sister Janie Holloway Baucom (Mike) of Lincolnton, NC; niece Audra Baucom Ellis (Rick) and nephews Greg Baucom (Courtney) and David Baucom (Jennifer) of Lincolnton, NC.  She has five great nieces and two great nephews. She has many close cousins and friends, her “sassy sisters” home economics teachers, her LHS friends and co-workers, her camping crew, and her Hardees breakfast bunch.
