Peggy Ray Coffey
( November 27, 1944 - August 3, 2022 )
Peggy Carolyn Ray Coffey (77) entered Heaven’s Glory on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Mrs. Coffey was born on November 27, 1944 in Homer, GA to the late Henry Johnson Ray and Fearl James Ray. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, Drucilla, Henry, Verlin, Mary Frances, Garnett, Emma Lee, Wortie Lee, Grady, Glenn, and William.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at River View Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at River View Baptist Church.
Peggy lived most of her life in High Shoals, NC and Lincoln County, NC. She lived her early years in the High Shoals community and graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1963. After working in several mills, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, and the Holiday Inn, she studied cosmetology at Noble’s Hair Design and the American Beauty College and spent her apprenticeship with Juanita Dysart and Helen Blackburn. She owned and operated Peggy’s Beauty Shop continuously for over fifty years until her recent illness. She loved decorating and working in her flower gardens and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed hosting meals and was a wonderful cook.
Peggy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a result of the bus ministry of Salem Baptist Church. She was a member of River View Baptist Church for over 50 years and served in many areas of ministry including Sunday School, decorating, and bereavement. She planned, funded, and maintained the church’s Prayer and Meditation Garden.
She is survived by her husband of over 57 years, Larry Coffey, son David Larry Coffey and wife Robin, daughter Kelly Caroline Coffey Washam and husband Rusty, seven grandchildren, Zachary, Summer, Autumn Washam and Caprice, Josiah, Rhaina, and Dessa Coffey, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and cousins too many to number.
Memorial can be made to River View Baptist Church, 2230 Riverview Rd, Lincolnton, NC 28092 for the Prayer Garden or Bereavement Ministry.
