Joseph Donald Ballard

Joseph Donald “Don” Ballard, age 83, of Quail Trail in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Boger City United Methodist Church.  Burial will be private.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.  

Mr. Ballard was born December 22, 1938, in Gaston County, to the late Joseph William Ballard and Anna Ruth Galloway Ballard.  Upon graduation from Lincolnton High School, Don joined the Air Force, serving half of his time in North Africa.  His career in banking spanned thirty-eight years including General Motors Acceptance Corp., City Executive for Southern National Bank in Rowland and Cherryville, and BB&T in Lincolnton.  He spent the last four years of banking as Commercial Loan Officer for Carolina Trust Bank.  

He had served in several capacities of many organizations such as Lions Club, Rotary, United Way, Boy Scouts of America.  He was a member of the Boger City United Methodist Church and had served as Sunday school teacher and on many committees.  He was a member of the Rowland City Council for fourteen years, six years as mayor.    

Don’s favorite past times were spending time with Sarah walking on the beach, spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.  He and Sarah had enjoyed many trips to various countries.  He loved working in his shop making beautiful pieces out of items he found on the beach.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus, very kindhearted, and true Southern Gentleman.  

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Seehorn Ballard; three children, Jeffrey (Stephanie) of Knightdale, Lynne Ballard Christiansen (Donald) of Mill Spring, and Angela Ballard Christopher (Ricky) of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Richard Ballard (Danielle), Hannah Ballard Eason (Kekoa), Jacob Christiansen, Dr. Mary Kate Christiansen, and Luke Carpenter; one great-granddaughter, Kelani Eason; and a sister, Phyllis Ballard Reinhardt.  

Memorials may be made to Boger City United Methodist Church, 2320 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC  28092, or to Boy Scout Troop 73, c/o Boger City United Methodist Church of Lincolnton.
