Jennifer Neal Culbreth Sharpe
( March 20, 1976 - April 17, 2022 )
Jennifer was born on Saturday, March 20, 1976 at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She moved with her parents to Charlotte shortly after her first birthday. Her sister, Tabor, joined the family in 1977.
Jennifer went to Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School, Hawthorne Traditional Junior High, and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1994. During her school years, she loved dancing, gymnastics and cheerleading. She cheered for Hawthorne Traditional , East Mecklenburg and was on the first cheer team of the Charlotte Allstars. She was very active in the youth program at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, and so enjoyed attending summer camps at Camp Grier, Fun in the Son and Montreat. They are still close friends.
Jennifer graduated from Wingate University in 1998. She was a member of Tri Sigma and was also on the cheerleading squad her freshman year. She met Chris Sharpe, her husband, through a mutual friend at Wingate.
Jennifer and Chris married in Mt. Pleasant, SC on November 8, 2003. Their beautiful daughter, Anderson, was born March 22, 2006. Her pride and joy was being a mother to Anderson.
Jennifer’s smile, outgoing personality and loving nature was infectious which made people want to be her friend. She had so many best friends because she was such a good friend to so many. She was the planner and organizer of parties, family trips and anything else that needed to get done. These natural talents were a blessing to her as a senior event planner for the American Cancer Society in Mt. Pleasant and working for Amanda Seay, Cosmetic Dentistry in Mt. Pleasant.
When Jennifer was diagnosed June 4, 2017 with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, she was determined to keep her same positive outlook and beautiful smile. Her medical oncologist, Dr. Reza Nazemzadeh (whom Jennifer loved dearly) always said he could tell how she was feeling by her smile. She had that smile 98% of the time. He kept her uplifted and hopeful for these almost five years.
She loved the beach, fishing, playing cards and being around her family, friends, and her wine. She so enjoyed her girl trips with her East Meck and Wingate friends. She looked forward to the many trips and cruises she, Chris and Anderson took with their special friends. We have many fond memories of family vacations every year at Kiawah Island and Folly Beach. For the past four years, she spent much of her time at Ocean Isle Beach where she again made so many friends. She knew her cooking limitations, and wasn’t ashamed to tell the many disaster stories. We have so many stories that will keep us laughing for years. She had a deep Christian faith, and openly shared it with others. People would reach out to her who were going through their cancer journey, and she always enjoyed encouraging them and sharing her story. She was a strong courageous lady who traveled her journey with such grace.
We would like to thank Dr. Reza, his amazing nursing and office staff, and the wonderful infusion nurses at Levine Cancer Institute Main, SouthPark and Huntersville for their love and care of Jennifer. Jennifer could not have endured this journey without her Christian Counselor Pam.
She is survived by her husband, Chris, their daughter, Anderson, her parents, Susan and David Culbreth , her sister, Tabor McLemore (Kevin), her nephews, Harrison and Hyatt, her mother-in-law, Nancy Sharpe, brothers-in-law Joey, Mickey and Greg Sharpe, and many special aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Lib and Virgil Collins (Mimi & PawPaw) and her father-in-law Joe Sharpe.
A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6470 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28212. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
Jennifer will be deeply missed by her family and many friends, but we rejoice she is feeling whole again and sharing that beautiful smile in heaven. We are blessed to have had her in our lives these short years. She was an incredible daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.
