Gilbert Hunt Sayres, Sr.

Gilbert Hunt Sayres, Sr., age 85, of Lake Vista Drive in Denver, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
Mr. Sayres was born November 16, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Ralph and Emma Jaffray Sayres. He was a 1960 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and later graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from Virginia Tech. He was a registered professional engineer in Virginia and North Carolina. He was employed as a project manager with Yeargin Construction Company of Greenville, South Carolina, for most of his career.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Lou McGuire Sayres of the home; two sons, Gilbert Hunt Sayres, Jr. (Melissa) of Ontario, CA, and Todd Sayres (Gail) of Gainesville, GA; a sister, Jan Porter Eichner of Crossville, TN; and granddaughter, Katie Sayres.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s By-the-Lake Episcopal Church, 8433 Fairfield Forest Road, Denver, NC 28037.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
