Kenneth Milton McCurry

Kenneth Milton McCurry, age 87, of Wise Road in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ingle and Rev. Danny McCurry officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Golden Valley Church Cemetery.  The body will lie in state on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.  The family will not be present during this time.

Ken was born October 27, 1934, in Lincoln County, to the late Lee and Odell Mosteller McCurry.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Beatrice Bridges McCurry; brother, Eddie McCurry; sister, Mary Lou McDonald; and brother-in-law, Ralph McDonald.  Ken served in the United States Marines and returned to work as a cabinet maker, real estate broker and also as a farmer.   He had been a Mason, Lincoln Lodge #137, for many years.  Ken was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and the Lincolnton Sportsman Hall of fame for featherweight boxing.  He was instrumental in building the Kids Dome, and home of the Lincoln County Boxing and Youth Association.

He is survived by a brother, James Lee McCurry of Cherryville; three sisters, Betty Jane Schronce (Billy), and Vickie Schrum (Don), all of Lincolnton, and Lois Eden (James) of Cherryville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
