Larry Hubert Gilbert

Larry Hubert Gilbert, 72, of Charlotte, born August 31, 1949, passed to eternal life September 17, 2021.

Larry grew up in Lincolnton, NC where he cultivated a great appreciation for nature and lifelong friendships. In 1962 he was recognized as a national Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America. A true outdoorsman, he was an expert gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. Larry was an avid bird watcher and feeder, and easily identified birds of North Carolina and other regions. Observing creatures large and small in their natural habitat brought him great joy. Larry valued the people in his life, and showed his love for family and friends with his passion for outdoor cooking. He enjoyed annual camping trips with childhood friends for more than 50 years. Larry served as a military police officer for the United States Army in Okinawa during the Vietnam War 1969-1971. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam and Hubert Gilbert of Lincolnton, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Solomon Gilbert, daughter Ingrid Gilbert Kopp, son-in-law Rusty Kopp, four grandchildren: Lily, Ridge, Abby and Stella, all of Charlotte, NC and his sister Beth Gilbert Wrenn and brother-in-law Lee Wrenn and the Wrenn family of Kure Beach, NC.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until– 11:15 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:30am on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton, NC.
