Espra (Phyllis) McGhee Hoffman

Espra (Phyllis) McGhee Hoffman, age 95, of 728 North Oak Street, Lincolnton, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, peacefully at her home, surrounded by family. 
A graveside service willl be held held Monday, September 6th at 11:00 at Hollybrook Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Hoffman (nephew) and Rev. Dr. Tim Roberts (FUMC) officiating. Friends are welcomed to attend.

She was born on September 24, 1925, in Durham, NC, and was the daughter of the late Marvin Jack and Mina Clements McGhee.  She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gwendolyn Alease Wilson, and Wanda Lou Green.  
Phyllis and William F Hoffman, Jr. (deceased) had 65 years together as husband and wife.

Phyllis entertained frequently as a military officer’s wife and throughout the years, especially for bridge club.  She loved singing with the Billy Graham Crusade when living in Greenville, SC.  She volunteered for various organizations including Shriner’s Hospital, school systems, and Council on Aging.  As a female business owner, she ran King’s Gifts, a shop for bridal registries and other gifts. 

Phyllis was an amazing cook and baker famous for her caramel cake, and the grandkids raved about her pancakes.  She was an avid reader, bridge player, enjoyed the outings with the “Go-Go Club” and enjoyed decorating and modeling.

She is survived by one son, William Frederick (Rick) Hoffman III and wife Sue of Alabama; three daughters, Phyllis Jeanne Hoffman of Lincolnton, Debra Hoffman Page of New Hampshire, Kathy Hoffman Wood of Conover; grandchildren David Patterson (Jane), Daniel Patterson (Rachel), and Elizabeth Patterson Nath (Sithorng); Katie Hoffman Kingston (Gary), Ryan Hoffman (AJ); Derick, John, Kevin, and Sam Wood; step grand-children Ryland, Chris, and Kelly Page; great-grandchildren, Henry Kingston; Madison and Belle Hoffman; Milana and Tahvi Nath; Isla and Jeremiah Patterson; step great-grand-children Tavish and Sawyer Page.  She was adored by nephews and nieces:  Lee Green (deceased), Larry Dennis (deceased), Patsy Dennis Porter, Ronnie Green (Debbie), Pam Green Dixon, Joan Green Culberson, Jack Green; Laurie Hoffman Little, Joe Hoffman, Walter Hoffman; Cindy Smith, Kathy Smith King, Pam Smith Luther (Jeff & daughter Laura); Gene Heavner, Nancy Heavner Price, Jeff Heavner and many great-nieces and nephews. In-laws include Joseph Hoffman (deceased) and wife Alice; Laura Hoffman Smith (deceased) and husband Jim (deceased); Mary Hoffman Heavner and husband Carroll.

Jeanne Hoffman cared for her mom during the last years of her life and Khali and Jasmine, Jeannie’s cats, brought great joy and pleasure to her.
