Mary Pinkie Holbrook Mosteller

Mary Pinkie Holbrook Mosteller, age 97, of Tin Mine Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021, in the cemetery of Church of Our Saviour “Woodside” with Rev. Elizabeth Tester and Rev. Pat Earle officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Pinkie was born December 25, 1923, in Lincoln County, to the late John Boekhout and Lillie Mae Leatherman Holbrook-Boekhout. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Clarence Mosteller; and brothers, Paul, Henry, and George Holbrook. Her husband, Calvin (otherwise known as Bill), served in World War II in the 442nd Airborne Division stationed in England, where he was an aircraft gunner. Pinkie was a life member of Church of Our Saviour, served as church treasurer for 41 years, taught adult class, served on alter guild, vestry member, and secretary and lay reader.
She served as President of Long Shoals Extension Club for 17 years, outstanding club leader fifteen times, A & P winner 1989, county-wide outstanding leader 1989, Southwestern District leader, Southwestern District VEEP winner five times, State VEEP winner, CVU state winner with one 50,000 volunteer hours. Served as ECA County Counsel and President one term, and member of Senior Council. Was a member of UDC Southern Stars Chapter 477, served in different offices, Vice President, secretary, treasurer, historian, scrapbook won statewide several times, did ten scrapbooks, served as trustee with others in the UDC Hall.
Pinkie was selected Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1989. She earned her 5-year pin from the Red Cross. She served on the Council of Aging, was a member of five who started Golden Agers Day, served as a committee member for the Senior Center in Lincoln County where they toured other counties to see how they operated. Of the seven-member board, Pinkie Mosteller only left at age 95. She chaired fundraisers when they shared the building with Gaston College. Pinkie participated in the Senior Games many times. She was a volunteer at Christian Ministries packing food boxes and collecting food. She worked 43 years for Lincoln County in the tax office as a clerk, then assistant tax supervisor. She served as treasurer for Pisgah United Methodist Church Happy Timers for 22 years. Pinkie was chairman of Warm-Up America and five nursing homes were furnished with afghans. A committee was formed to locate an AARP Chapter in Lincoln County. The oldest member still living is Lewis Heavner. Calvin Mosteller served several terms as President and Pinkie served as secretary and teasurer for several terms.
Pinkie’s favorite treats were chocolate milk shakes and lemon-filled doughnuts.
She is survived by a number of cousins; and caregivers, Larry and Beth Saine, and Tiffany Griffin who was a precious one to Pinkie.
