Jack Ervin Carswell

Jack Ervin Carswell, age 91 of Doris Court in Lincolnton died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

A graveside will be held at Hollybrook Cemetery.  Mr. Carswell’s body will lie in state on Monday, May 18, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Carswell was born in West Lincoln County on March 5, 1929. He was the son of the late Susie Hartsoe Carswell and Joe Carswell. Jack moved to Lincolnton as a teenager. He lived on East Main Street across from where First Federal Savings and Loan is located now.  He graduated from Lincolnton High School, after that he served in the Korean Conflict. After returning home, Jack went to work for Southern Bell serving in many capacities over his career. He retired in 1987 as a supervisor of the Western District. He enjoyed his retirement from Bell South and was very active in the community. Jack served on the planning board, the apple festival committee and numerous projects with the Pioneer Workers of America. Mr. Carswell was former Master of the Lincoln Lodge 137 A.F. and A.M.. He was a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple serving as President, Ambassador, and Past Ambassador.

Both Jack and his wife Peggy were raised in the Lutheran faith. After their marriage, they attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church where they were both very active. Jack served as usher, church councilman, Sunday school superintendent and treasurer.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his son, Tim Carswell of Lincolnton, grandson TJ and granddaughter Anna both of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Susan Schwarz and husband John of Greensboro, NC, and granddaughter Allison Dickens of Simpsonville, SC.
