Kirby Dowd Dellinger, Jr.

Kirby Dowd Dellinger, Jr., age 90, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

A private graveside will be held for immediate family members.  The body will lie in state on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Warlick Funeral Home for those wishing to pay their respects.  Rev. Jaie Warlick and Rev. Butch Ross will be officiating.

Mr. Dellinger was born January 15, 1930, in Gaston County, to the late Kirby Dowd Dellinger, Sr. and Frances Black Dellinger.  He worked as a car salesman.  He was a former racecar driver and team owner where he was a previous track champion at Hickory Motor Speedway, and an avid race fan his entire life.  Kirby was a long-time attendee of the Rock Springs Campground where he met his wife, Mary.  

He is survived by a daughter, Joette Ross, and husband, Butch, of Lincolnton; a son, Kirby Dellinger, III of Maiden; a sister, Janis Dellinger-Holton, and husband Barry, of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Neal Crouse, and wife Darlene, of Maiden; seven grandchildren, Heather Willis, Angie Drewey, and husband J.C., Jr., Elizabeth Carpenter, and husband Rusty, Mia Cooke, Sarah Ross, Darin Dellinger, and Kirby Dellinger, IV; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  

A special thanks to the Brian Center staff and Dr. Toma Radut, and the staff of Hospice of Lincoln County.
