Doyle Leonard Payne

Doyle Leonard Payne, age 71 of Alexis, died on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
Mr. Payne was born May 28, 1948, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Smith Leonard Payne and Catherine Sue Moss Payne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Payne, and a sister, Carolyn Sellers. Doyle served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and then worked for over twenty-five years for Freightliner as a mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Anne” Helderman Payne of the home; two daughters, Lynn Payne of Holy Angels, and Amy Payne Funderburk (Johnny) of Alexis; granddaughters, Brittani Williams (Josh) of Alexis, and Ashley Funderburk of Cornelius; four great-grandchildren, Michael ,Addy, Nolan, and Sam; a brother, Tommy Payne (Judy) of Clover, SC; and sister-in-law, Martha Helderman of Alexis. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the world to him and he loved all of them.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
