James O. Gilbert
( February 8, 1933 - March 13, 2020 )
James O. Gilbert, age 87, passed away Friday, March 13, at his farm on Cat Square Road in Lincolnton. He left this life to join other family members, the saints of old and with Jesus.
James was the son of Mike J. and Bessie Hartsoe Gilbert of Lincolnton. Other family members who predeceased him are brother, Stowe Bryson Gilbert; sisters, Helen G. Davis, Linda G. Boes; sister-in-law, Nancy Dixon Gilbert; brothers-in-law, James P. Boes and James H. Hoyle.
Survivors include Ralph (Jan) Gilbert of Sarasota, FL, Mary G. Hoyle of Newton, Jean G. (Bill) Ritchie of Charlotte, Judy Gilbert of Lincolnton; nieces and nephews, Lanny (Donna) Davis of Charlotte, Butch Davis of Rock Hill, SC, Libby (Lynn) Hammock of Florida, Alan (Vickie) Hoyle of Denver, Laraine (Terry) Middleton of Denver, Deborah (Randy) Morrison of Monroe, Gail (Cliff) Whitney of Georgia, Ralph Gilbert, Jr. of Palatine, IL, Randy Gilbert of Dundee, IL, and Nancy (Carol) Bostic of Charlotte.
Service will be private at Warlick Funeral Home with private burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Jim worked with the government Department of Army Communications where he was presented many accommodations for his outstanding leadership during his thirty years of work. He worked at Fort Ritchie, PA and lived in Hagerstown, MD, but never forgetting his home and family in Lincolnton. Through his work, he traveled extensively through all the United States and overseas in Europe, Northern African, and the Middle East.
Jimmy served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, stationed in Germany. He was a member of Hulls Grove Baptist Church in Vale from his teen years.
He was a member of the Woodman of the World and Moose Club of Hagerstown, MD. He was a member of NARFE and a member of the American Legion.
He graduated from Union School in Vale and electronic communication school in Joliet, IL. Although Jimmy was limited in his ability to walk after he suffered from a stroke, he enjoyed visits from friends as he was able to talk and enjoy the visits. Members from his church visited often and Bobby Farmer, pastor at Hulls Grove, spent regular visits and prayer time with Jimmy.
The family requests that memorials may be made to Hulls Grove Baptist Church, 6670 W. Highway 27, Vale, NC 28168.
