Elizabeth Christine Ewing Modlin
( May 18, 1931 - March 2, 2020 )
Mrs. Elizabeth Christine Ewing Modlin, 88, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord Jesus at her home on March 2, 2020.

The funeral service for Mrs. Modlin will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. David H. Herbertson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. immediately prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.

Mrs. Modlin was born May 18, 1931, in Iron Station, North Carolina, to the late Oscar Harrison (Ben) Ewing and Anna Jane Reel Ewing.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one-and-one-half years, Robert (Bob) H. Modlin, Sr.; her brother, Harrison Ewing; and her sisters, Clarine E. Cline and Mary Alice E. Pope.  She was a life-long resident of Lincoln County and lived for 72 years in the home she and Bob built one room at a time.  She reared her family there and was a devoted homemaker.

Christine is survived by her four children: daughter Jane M. Pruette (Allen); son, Robert H. Modlin, Jr. (Hayley); son, Bruce I. Modlin (Dora); parents of Christine’s grandchildren, Brian and Ashley (mother of her only great-grandchild, Brayden); and daughter, Kristina M. Modlin. She is also survived by her sister, Helen E. Beam and a number of nieces and nephews.

God blessed Christine with extraordinary talents and gifts, many passed down through her mother.  She served as a caregiver to Bob and many others.  She donated over 5000 hours as a volunteer in the gift shop at the Lincoln County Hospital and volunteered as well in the Lincoln County Schools, chaperoning field trips and serving as a substitute teacher.  For many years she quietly assisted Bob with the operation of Modlin Brothers Tile.  Her passions included sewing (designing her own patterns), gardening, crafting, baking (with special pride for her award-winning fresh orange coconut cake), reading, and traveling with her family.

Mrs. Modlin lived an exemplary life of faith and wisdom, active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the bereavement committee, and a strong witness to Jesus to her family and people in her neighborhood and community for many years.  She avidly read her Bible and devotional materials every day, studying them not merely for knowledge but to find how to apply God’s principles to the life she lived so well.

The family wishes to express their special thanks to Hospice of Lincoln County for their compassionate care in Christine’s illness and last days.

Memorials may be given to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC  28607; a breast cancer research organization of your choice; or the charity of your choice.
