Ann Powel Debele Herbertson
( July 29, 1941 - March 21, 2019 )
Ann Powel Debele Herbertson, age 77, of Lincolnton, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, March 21, 2019.

A celebration of Mrs. Herbertson’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Covenant Church with the Rev. Mike Devine and the Rev. Nathan Grooms officiating, following the family’s receiving of friends at the church from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m..  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

She was born in Savannah, GA, on July 29, 1941, to the Rev. Frederick C. and Helen Inglesby Debele, Jr., who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her husband, the Rev. David H. Herbertson, her children, David Kirk Herbertson and Carol Herbertson Eason and son-in-law Timothy Mark Eason, all of Lincolnton, and sister-in-law Kay Gillrup (Ted) of Jacksonville, FL.  She was a beloved, wife, and adored mother and a faithful friend.

A graduate of Agnes Scott College, Mrs. Herbertson was a multi-talented woman whose interests and involvement spanned a wide range of activities.  She began her career as a Director of Christian Education, choir director and church secretary and throughout her life was known as a skilled teacher of the Bible.  She spent much of her life in teaching and other school-related activities, particularly in Christian school settings in Columbia and Charleston, SC, in Lincolnton and Franklin, NC, and in Houma, LA.  She served as the secretary to the Dean of Students and Supervisor of the Student Work Program at the Rabun Gap – Nacoochee School in Rabun County, GA.  She headed the Volunteer Service League in Lincoln County in the 1970s where she recruited, trained and placed volunteer assistants in almost all of the county’s schools.  She did the same in Macon County, NC, during the 1980’s.

In addition, Mrs. Herbertson served as secretary of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Lincolnton and later as Office Manager/Administrative Assistant at Realty World in Franklin, NC.  From 1976 to 1978 she was a member of the Cub Scout District Leadership Team, a den leader and a pack master in Lincolnton.  She served on the Advisory Board of the Evangel Christian School and the Steering Committee of Teen Aid in Macon County.  She was the Director’s Assistant at the South Louisiana Center for the Arts, a psychiatric unit volunteer at Chabert Medical Center, and volunteer aide for special education in several elementary schools, all in Houma, LA.  For almost 50 years Mrs. Herbertson worked beside her husband in serving her God in numerous church settings serving as everything from secretary to pianist, worship/choir director to library coordinator, Bible school director to sound technician to counselor extraordinaire.
