Verna Lou Herman Hovis
( July 8, 1930 - March 1, 2019 )
Verna Lou Herman Hovis, 88, of North Grove Street Lincolnton went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, March 1, 2019.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at First United Methodist Church Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the Philathea Class at the church.

Verna Lou was born July 6, 1930 in Gaston County. She was the daughter of the late Emmett A. Herman and Cloie Cline Herman. Verna Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Donald Lee Hovis, Sr. Verna Lou Has been a  member of First United Methodist Church Lincolnton since her marriage to Donald in 1949. She loved her church and community. She served in many areas at the church including; UMW, MYF counselor, mission work including trips to Mountain Top, Carolina Cross Connection, and Go Team. Verna Lou loved her church community and especially the youth. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by three sons; Donald L. Hovis, Jr. and wife Ann Canipe Hovis of Oak Island, Jonathan Hovis of Lincolnton and Stephen Hovis and wife Katrina Slayton Hovis of Lincolnton; three grandchildren; Michael Hovis and wife Bethany Deal Hovis, Sarah Hovis  Sipe and husband Daniel and Christopher Hovis; three great grandchildren: and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
