Pauline Houser Beam
( February 17, 1916 - February 5, 2019 )
Pauline Houser Beam, 102, of Vale, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019, at Carolina Care Center, Cherryville, NC, after a long and successful life.  

Pauline was born February 17, 1916, in Lincoln County, to the late William Lee Houser and Ida Catherine Hardester Houser.  Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Pence Beam,   her beloved son, Captain Doyle Houser Beam, and by her sisters:  Lula Beam, Maude Sain, Lorene Houser, and Eunice Sain; her brothers:  Cleabern Houser, and John Ervin Houser; and half sisters:  Ruth Hoover, Margaret Newton, and Edna Canipe.  She is survived by one sister, Madge Kean, of Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pauline was an active member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church and she considered each member of the church as part of her family.  She attended every service and almost any other church function until very recently.  Pauline established The Pauline Beam Scholarship Fund to assist students of Cedar Grove pursuing higher education.  She also contributed to many special parish projects as well.

Pauline was a Gold Star Mother, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of the N.C. Retired Government Employees Association.  She and her husband, Pence, owned and operated a farm in the North Brook community in earlier years.

A funeral will be held at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, 261 Cedar Grove Church Road, Vale, NC, on Sunday, February 10, at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Dale Pederson officiating.  The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.  A reception and time of fellowship will be held following the service in the church Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church.
