John Fred Eaddy, Jr.

John Fred Eaddy, Jr., born on June 30, 1920, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Mr. Eaddy will be interred, at a family graveside service, next to his wife at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Lincolnton.  

He was predeceased by his wife, Clara Martin Eaddy of Lincolnton, his parents, John Fred and Frances Spencer Eaddy of Florence, South Carolina, and a granddaughter, Olivia Ann Seagle.  

Mr. Eaddy was a decorated World War II pilot serving as a member of the Army Air Corp leading unarmed flights over the Himalayan Mountains at the Chinese/Burma border delivering ammunition, supplies, and soldiers in the fight against Japan.  He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout Award and honored with the BSA Lifesaving Award for a rescue of two swimmers in the Atlantic Ocean.  He continued his service as a scoutmaster providing a positive influence on many young men.  After a career with the U.S. Postal Service, Mr. Eaddy retired and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his friends and family.  

Surviving family members are sons, John Eaddy, and wife Kay, of Chapel Hill and Martin Eaddy, and wife Jill, of Lincolnton; a daughter, Mary Ann Eaddy of Lincolnton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.  

The family is especially thankful for the love and support of his four-year caregiver, Gloria Hoppes, and the comfort and care provided by Hospice of Lincoln County.
