Claude Alonzo Killian

Claude Alonzo Killian, age 96, of Killian Farm Road, Stanley died Monday, December 24, 2018.

His funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver with Pastor David Bonnema officiating.  Burial will follow in Martha’s Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10.00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral at Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver.

Mr. Killian was born on June 23, 1922 to the late Jessie Claude Killian and Rena Sifford Killian.  He was born on his family’s farm near Mountain Island Lake and passed away there.  Mr. Killian is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Rebecca Bynum Killian, who he married on December 22, 1950.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, John Wiley Killian and sisters, Jessie Irene Killian, Vera Mae Killian, Isabell Laney Killian and Frances Killian Hampton. 

He attended Lucia Elementary and Mt. Holly High School. He was a farmer and still owned a herd of beef cattle.  As a young man, he kept bird dogs, enjoyed quail hunting and generally liked being outdoors. He and his wife received awards from the Catawba Lands Conservancy in 2004 and 2011 for the preservation of farm and forest land near Mountain Island Lake where his ancestors were early settlers. In addition, he was a skilled carpenter. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II in the South Pacific, including the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.

Mr. Killian is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Kay Killian and numerous other relatives including nephews and cousins.
