John Richard Millard
( October 9, 1942 - September 29, 2018 )
John Richard Millard, age 75 of Lincolnton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2018.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 5th, 2018 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Born on October 9, 1942 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Beecher K. and Marie Turner Millard, John entered the United States Marines Corps out of high school and completed one tour of duty in Vietnam. In the Marines, his specialty was recovering immobile vehicles for the motor pool.  Upon completion of military service, John began work for Pizza Hut, quickly moving up to management, where he enjoyed great success. After moving on from Pizza Hut, he became a parts manager for UPS, eventually earning retirement from UPS. In his free time, John loved to explore, and going on adventures with his RV later in life became his passion. Whenever he had downtime, you could catch him watching old Westerns and relishing a time in which the movies were still “worth watching.” John lived life on his terms and never let anyone dictate his actions. He loved his family, children and grandchildren dearly.

John was preceded in death by a son, John “Jamie” Millard; daughter, Jennifer Ronca; and sister, Shirley Parker.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Hendricks of Lincolnton; son, Shawn Millard and wife Heather Curlee of Seattle, WA; stepdaughter, Lindy Blackwell and Brian Wray of Lincolnton; sister, Janet Gratham of VA; brother, Beecher Millard Jr. and wife Pat of Roanoke, VA; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking you make donations in his name to an Alzheimer’s related charity.
