Daniel Jay Grimm
( February 7, 1941 - May 3, 2018 )
Dan passed away on May 3, 2018, under hospice care in Lincoln County, North Carolina of Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

He was born in Perry, Iowa on February 7, 1941, to the late Clifford and Claire Grimm and lived there until moving with his family to Des Moines where he attended Roosevelt High School.  He received an athletic scholarship to the University of Colorado where he played football for four years.  He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, then went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Colts.  

Following his career in the NFL, he became a partner in a Des Moines insurance agency, where he worked until his retirement in 1986.  

In 1988, he and his wife, Cynthia, moved to Marco Island, Florida and then to Naples, Florida where they resided until moving to North Carolina in 2004.

Dan is survived by his wife, Cynthia, of Denver, NC, and his three children, Kevin Grimm (Sheryl) of Des Moines, Kerry Grimm of Waukee, and Tom Skiles (Renee) of Denver, NC.  He also leaves behind ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Grimm.

Pursuant to Dan’s request, he was cremated and his family will hold a private service to honor his memory.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, NC at hpccr.org.

His wife wishes to thank the caregivers at Carillon Assisted Living of Lincolnton, the CCU staff at CMC Lincoln, and Hospice of Lincoln County for their compassionate care during his final months.
