Edith Brinkley Thornburg

Edith Brinkley Thornburg, age 89, of Terrace Place in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends in the Philathea Class from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Thornburg was born June 24, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late James Fulton Brinkley and Mary Clayton Brinkley. She worked as a nurse’s aide. Edith and her husband Ray after retirement, also delivered Meals on Wheels for twenty years. They were active members at First United Methodist Church. Edith enjoyed being a member of the choir for many years.
She is survived by her husband, R. Ray Thornburg, of the home; a son, Bobby Thornburg, and wife Sharon of Bessemer City; a daughter, Jill Childers and husband Kelly of Cherryville; two sisters, Helen B. Lawton of Ocala, Fla. and Janice B. McCombs of Waynesboro, Va.; four grandchildren, Jamie Thornburg, Allyson Cunningham, Holly Jones, and Heather Suttle; and four great-grandchildren, Rachel, Hayes, Katherine, and Jaxxon.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Carillon Assisted Living of Lincolnton for their love and support they gave our family while caring for Edith.
