Jack Lloyd Dellinger, Sr.

Jack Lloyd Dellinger, Sr., age 94 of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, and formerly of Kennedy Drive, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Matthews officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service.  Visitation will be in the Philathea Class from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Dellinger was born October 6, 1923, in Gaston County, to the late Henry and Ella Putnam Dellinger.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, John Dellinger, Melvin Dellinger, and Lander Dellinger; and sisters, Blanche Jackson, Thelma Hord and Irene Hinson.  Jack was a World War II veteran and touched many lives.  He was in the bottled gas business before joining New York Life Insurance Company.  He was an alderman for the City of Lincolnton and on the state Aeronautics Council for many years.  Jack was instrumental in getting approval for the Lincolnton airport.  He was active in many civic organizations, including the Rotary Club, Jaycees, and Shriners.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for over 60 years.  

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Turner Dellinger of the home; a son, Jack L. Dellinger, Jr. of Lincolnton; two daughters, Margot D. Davis, and husband Mack, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Jennifer D. Childers of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Nicholas Dellinger (Lacey), Alex Davis (Carter), Rys Davis (Jaclyn), Keelan Childers (Lynda) and Katie Childers; one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Davis; and many nieces and nephews.   

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC  28092.
