Shirley Ione Fontish Roach
( August 5, 1933 - July 31, 2017 )
Shirley Fontish Roach, 83, passed away Monday July 31, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Thomas Allen Roach.
Shirley was born August 5, 1933 in La Crosse Wi. She resided in Denver NC until recently moving to Davidson NC. She and husband Thomas met in elementary school, dated through high school and were married May 16, 1953. They were the love of one another’s lives and remained so until his death in 1996. In 1973, they moved from Wisconsin to North Carolina where Tom started Trane Service First and she worked in administration. She particularly enjoyed travel with her friends to Europe, Russia, and Australia. She was a graduate of Central High School in La Crosse and the University of Wisconsin La Crosse where she graduated with highest honors. She was an active and founding member of her church St Peters by the Lake.
Shirley was a loving parent and grandparent. She is survived by her three children, David Roach of Lake Norman, Daniel and wife Lisa Roach of Charlotte NC, Carol Brooks of Maiden NC and five grandchildren Allen Roach, Jake Roach, Sarah Roach, Cody Brooks, Tyler Brooks and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1 PM August 11 at St Peter by the Lake in Denver NC. In lieu of flowers the family asks for honorary donations to Hospice of the Charlotte Region.
