Cecil Lawing Perkins
( March 25, 1937 - May 16, 2017 )
Cecil Lawing Perkins, 80, of Heavner Road, Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at his home. He was born March 25, 1937, in Iron Station, NC, to the late June Lawing Perkins and Walter Richard Perkins.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Emanuel Reformed Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Susan Walker and Rev. Brent Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Iron Station Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Cecil attended Lincolnton High School, served in the US Army for 2 years, worked in construction driving heavy equipment, and later retired from PC Godfrey in Charlotte after more than 30 years of employment as a pipe fitter.
Cecil was an active member of Emanuel Reformed Church, which he described as being “the church across the street from the Post Office.” Sunday mornings he rang the church bell and invited children of the church to help him.
Cecil had the gift of gab and never met a stranger. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bus trips with his family to see the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. His granddaughters were the twinkle in his eyes.
Other than his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by one sister, Cornelia (Dee) Perkins Bynum.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Rudisill Perkins of the home; a son, Douglas C. Perkins of Mooresville; a daughter, Cecilia (Cissy) Perkins Hicks, and husband Charles, of Lenoir; two granddaughters, Emily Hicks and Callie Hicks of Lenoir; a sister, Sarah Cox of Charlotte; a brother, Boyd Perkins of Charlotte; three nieces; and five nephews.
