She grew up in Newton-Conover, NC with her parents, Atley and Mazie Moretz, and 2 brothers, James and Sam Moretz. Joyce was married to the love of her life, Rodney Burgin, for 57 years. Together the couple raised their four children Sherry Cottingham, Shelia Horton, Dale Burgin, and Cindy Leonard.

Joyce loved the holidays and family gatherings; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
