Janet Bittinger
( September 26, 1940 - December 25, 2016 )

Janet Carter Bittinger, 76, passed away on December 25, 2016. Born September 26, 1940, in Asheboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Louise Boyles Carter and Lewis James Carter.

Janet graduated from Asheboro High School in 1958 and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She worked at Presbyterian Hospital for many years and was always a nurse at heart. Compassionate, humble and selfless, she lived to help others—especially her children and grandchildren. Dedicated to her family and friends, she was a great listener and confidante; the person whom we all turned to for understanding and honest common sense advice. She loved walking the Balds of Roan Mountain with her husband Charlie, pulling her grandchildren in an inner tube behind a boat on Lake Norman, quilting, listening to country music and taking road trips to anywhere. She was the center and heart of her family and a special friend to many.

Janet is survived by her husband Charlie Bittinger, daughters Cynthia Kline (Greg), Janna Stein (Michael); sons Carter Drinkard (Brenda), Scott Drinkard (Celeste); grandchildren Anthony Drinkard (Angela), Christopher Gray (Sarah), Katie Drinkard, Chelsea Lee (Aaron), Connor Drinkard, Louisa Stein, Jacob Stein, Nathan Stein and a one year old great grandson Walker Lee. She was the eldest of six children and is survived by her siblings: Jane, Janice Ann, Jimmy, Joyce and Jeff.

An interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10:00 am followed by a service to celebrate Janet’s life at Abernethy Laurels’ Spirit Place in Newton, NC at 2:00 pm with Dr. Susan Roddey officiating. Janet’s family will receive friends following the service in Spirit Place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to United Church Homes and Services Foundation, 103 Leonard Ave. Newton, NC 28658.
