Mr. Benton was born October 30, 1957 in South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Lee Benton and a sister Donna. Johnny was a construction worker.

Survivors include: wife, Hazel H. Benton of the home; son, Dustin Ray Benton and wife Edna of Lincolnton; mother, Nancy Edwards Benton; brother, Randy Benton; sisters, Janie, Barbara and Debbie; two grandchildren, Kaylee Benton and Charlotte Benton; step-son, Tony Cody; step-daughter, Donna Helms; three step grandchildren.
