R.J. Whisnant

Mr. R.J. Whisnant, age 82, of Vale, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. R.A. Brackett and Rev. Freida Hobson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Warlick Funeral Home.  

Mr. Whisnant was born February 21, 1934, in Lincoln County, to the late Lester and Mallie Strange Whisnant.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Mable Shoup Whisnant, two sons R.J. Whisnant, Jr. and Ronnie Whisnant, a brother Charles Whisnant, and a grandson Benjamin White.   He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and then later worked in furniture manufacturing.  Mr. Whisnant was a dedicated member of the Cooksville Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years.  He was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for the Adult Men’s Class, as well as serving on many committees.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda White, and husband Wayne, of Vale; a brother, Lester Whisnant, Jr. of Downey, California; four sisters, Katherine Carpenter and Dorothy Chapman, both of Vale, Mary Kale, and husband Glen, of Shelby, and Patsy Johnson, and husband Jack, of Terrell; three grandchildren, Philip White, and wife Brandy, of Vale, Boone White of Winston-Salem, and Tyler White, and wife Kelli, of Iron Station; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel White and Hayden White.
