Berley Laney Barker
( March 23, 1921 - June 22, 2016 )
Berl Laney Barker, 95, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016. She was born March 23, 1921, daughter of Merkerson Hoyle and Lucy Lawing Laney.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Lincolnton, NC. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Her service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Craig Wilson Barker, granddaughter Courtney Marissa Rainwater, brothers and sisters Edna Mae Painter (Wade), Bonnie Harris Aught, Gracie E. Laney, Marion “Cap” Smith (Edna), Bunnie Lowman (Marvin), Osborne F. Laney, Bernice Bolick (Kermit), William Haston (Nell), Laura Janette Laney, John Cecil (Elizabeth), and Floyd Recil “Dab.”
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ann and husband BC Ballard, Barbara (Bobbie) and her husband Charles Rainwater, Pam and husband Richard Sanders; grandchildren, Samuel Ballard and wife Renea, Amy Jones and husband Kevin, and Scott Sherrill; great-grandchildren, Craig, Jacob, Addie, and Hoke Ballard, Andrew and Lindsey Jones; and sister-in-law Pat Laney. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
Berl was a devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very caring person always willing to help anyone in the community in any situation. She enjoyed her flowers, vegetable garden, visiting with family and friends, and Southern gospel music. She sang in her church choir as long as she was able.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to Macedonia Baptist Church, 5286 E. Highway 150, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
