Nellie Ruth Leonard Bess

Mrs. Nellie Ruth Leonard Bess, age 92, of Leonard Road in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.
Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Pedersen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at 326 Leonard Road.
Mrs. Bess was born August 2, 1923, in Lincoln County, to the late Clifford Lee and Viola Heavner Leonard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband William C. Bess, and two sisters Mary Lee Armstrong and Selena Sain Hefner. She worked in the Clerk of Court office for many years, and from 1974 to 1986 served as Clerk of Superior Court for Lincoln County.
She is survived by a son, Bill Bess, Jr. and wife Rene; a daughter, Mary Ann Childers and husband Don; three grandchildren, Rebecca Boyles and husband Chris, Will Bess and wife Caroline, and Michael Childers and wife Erica; six great-grandchildren, Cooper Boyles, Ella Kate Boyles, Gage Boyles, Liam Bess, Asher Bess, and Ava Grace Childers; niece, Beth Armstrong Lail; nephew Gene Sain; and their extended families.
The family would also like to recognize Dee and Tracy, who were her primary caregivers for the past year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, 261 Cedar Grove Church Road, Vale, NC 28168.
