Micheal Ray Hill
( September 11, 1957 - September 5, 2015 )
Longtime Boger City Fire Chief Micheal R. Hill has answered his last call, completed his assignment, and returned to that great station in the sky. We are heartbroken to announce the loss of an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Micheal Hill died on Saturday, September 5, 2015 of cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer.
Mike was born on September 11th, 1957 in Lincoln County to the late Clyde Ray and Joann Huffstetler Hill. He graduated from Lincolnton High School and Law Enforcement Training at Gaston College. Also Mike held numerous certifications in emergency management and fire related courses on national, state, and local levels.
He worked for over thirty-five years for Lincoln County as a telecommunicator at the Communication Center. His voice was so well known that many of the first responders throughout the county didn’t say “Comm Center” when calling in, they just said, “Mike”. Today many of the people who work in the Comm. Center were trained by Mike.
Following in his dad’s footsteps, Mike joined the Boger City Fire Department on his eighteenth birthday. He has been a dedicated firefighter for almost forty years and has served as chief of the department for the past twenty-three years. Together father and son combined to give over ninety years of service. Under Mike’s leadership the fire department has made many major advancements including building a new station, transitioning from an all volunteer to a paid/volunteer department, and achieving an ISO NCRRS Class 4/9E Rating. Boger City is one of two fire departments in Lincoln County to attain this prestigious ranking.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7th, 2015 at Warlick Funeral Home.
On Tuesday Mike will take his final ride on Engine 42 at 10:15 a.m. from Warlick Funeral Home to First Christian Church. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8th, 2015 at First Christian Church, 735 Buffalo Shoals Road, Lincolnton with Rev. Kathy Naish and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity/organization of one’s choice or The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, 5526 West 1344 South, #510, Salt Lake City, Utah 84096.
Mike is survived by his cherished wife Teresa. He is also survived by his daughter Catherine Cox and her husband Jeremy and his son Jacob Kiser and his wife Emily. His children gave him five precious grandchildren, Braden, Henry, Caroline, Molli, and Olivia. Being Pawpaw was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Mike is survived by his sister Sheri Hill and his sister and brother-in-law Jodie and Michael Reinhardt. He is survived by his nephew Scott Reinhardt and his wife Meghan, and his niece Rebecca Miller and her husband JR. He is also survived by his great-nephews, Chandler and Waylon Sneed and Trip Reinhardt.
Other family members include: his aunts Deborah Buff and her husband Neil, Jeannie Daniels, and Judy Huffstetler, his uncles Bill Huffstetler and his wife Christy, and Ralph Allran. Mike is also survived by numerous cousins.
Mike is also survived by Teresa’s family: her mother Barbara White; her sisters, Debbie Sherrill and her husband James and Rena Black and her husband Rick; her brothers, Johnny Mull and his wife Cindy, Tracey Mull and his wife Susie, and Danny White.
Mike was a man of quiet dignity. That was the way he lived his life, and that was the way he faced his death. He loved his family, his friends, his church, and his community. He gave us so very much, and our lives were enriched by the love and presence of Micheal Hill. But realize, he also taught us so very much, and those are the things we will always remember.
You’re our special angel now, Mikey, and we will love you forever.
