Nell Lou Whisnant Willis

Nell Lou Whisnant Willis, age 86, of Cardinal Health Care in Lincolnton, and formerly of 321 Eastwood Drive, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Boger City United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Reece and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating.  The body will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Willis was born January 27, 1929, in Rutherford County, to the late Hubert and Annie Pendleton Whisnant. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Norris Willis, daughter Rena Anthony, and two brothers Herman Whisnant and Hugh E. Whisnant. She was a homemaker as she raised her four children, then worked as a preschool teacher at Boger City United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed beach trips with her friends. She was also an artistic and creative person who was a great cook, seamstress, and decorator among her talents.

She is survived by Chris Smith and husband Mike of Lincolnton, Jeanne Bailey and husband Steve of Vale, Todd Willis and partner Loyal Osterlund of New Bern, three brothers, Buck Whisnant, Bob Whisnant, and Donald Whisnant; and three grandchildren, Zach Eurey and wife Eva, Dylan Anthony, and Rush Anthony.

Memorials may be made to Boger City United Methodist Church, 2320 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Nell and her family wish to express a special thank you to the loving caregivers at Cardinal Health Care where she had been a resident for five years.
