Ralph James "Jimmy" Poovey

Mr. Ralph James “Jimmy” Poovey age 89 of the Long Shoals community in Lincolnton died Friday, May 29, 2015.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at Long Shoals Baptist Church. Rev. Kenneth Gibson will officiate. The burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Poovey was born February 5, 1926 in Lincoln County. He was the son of the late William M. Poovey and Verna Abernethy Poovey. Mr. Poovey was preceded in death by a daughter, Lola Poovey and siblings Johnny Poovey, Wilma P. Summey and Andrul Poovey. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII. Jimmy retired from Temple Furniture in Maiden. He served faithfully as a Deacon and choir member at Long Shoals Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Jane Gates Poovey of the home; sons, Steve Poovey and wife Cecilia of Charlotte, Rick Poovey and wife Cindy of Denver; daughter, Ann P. Spencer and husband Jimmy of Long Shoals; sisters, Hazel Warren of Lincolnton and Betty Glasson of Florida; grandchildren, Amy, Shelley, Ricky, Ethan, Tyler, Ashley, Jason and Ronda; great grandchildren, Skye, Paige, Kendall, Andrew, Braedyn and Kaleigh.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Catawba County, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
